iWave Storage Automator / Features
iWave Storage Automator provides an automation platform for storage administrators to manage and implement automated storage services for their enterprise storage users.
Key features include:
- iWave Storage Automator Portal & Catalog (User’s View): users access automated storage services using the iWave Storage Automator Portal & Catalog. Users are restricted to accessing automated storage services that have been defined for their role. For example, Oracle DBAs can be restricted to viewing automated storage services for Oracle products.
- iWave Storage Automator Portal & Catalog (Administrator’s View): storage administrators use the portal and catalog to create organizational-specific storage service catalogs, manage the input parameters for storage services, enforce organizational standards such as storage naming conventions, define the change approval process for storage services and manage reporting.
- Storage Adapters / Cross Platform Support: iWave Storage Automator includes over 50 pre-built adapters for: host operating systems, host hypervisors, network devices and ITIL service support applications from multiple vendors including EMC, NetApp, Dell, VMware, BMC, IBM, HP and others.
- Flexible Architecture that Accommodates Change: iWave Storage Automator provides a layer of abstraction between process workflows and infrastructure components. iWave's architecture provides our customers with an insurance policy against vendor lock-in. By abstracting the automated storage service workflows from the underlying IT infrastructure components that they manipulate via an adapter layer, iWave users can add or replace storage arrays, SAN switches or hosts without impacting the automated services defined in their iWave Storage Automator service catalog.
- Support of Existing Portals, ITIL Applications & Third Party Orchestration Engines: iWave Storage Automator’s architecture provides a “northbound” RESTful API. By leveraging this API, customers can consume the automated storage services defined in the iWave Storage Automator catalog from their existing service portals, ITIL applications such as service desk, and even other third party IT orchestration engines.
- Pre-Built Storage Services: While iWave Storage Automator is a platform by which enterprise organizations can develop and deliver storage automation services that address their specific storage administration challenges, the product comes with prebuilt services that may be configured and used out-of-the-box. In its initial release, these prebuilt services are focused on:
- Storage Provisioning: automates complex provisioning processes, including the creation of LUNs, NFS Mount Points and CIFS shares; configuring the SAN fabric and host systems to access newly provisioned storage.
- Storage Reclamation: automates the process of identifying and reclaiming unused storage, including interfacing with existing IT Service Desks to approve and ensure data retention policies are enforced.
